When most people picture a maxi dress, they think of the bright floral patterned, lightweight, flowing summer dresses which are usually paired with cute sandals and a set of film-star sunglasses. However, is a maxi dress only for the summer or can it be worn in other seasons as well?
A Dress for All Seasons
Maxi dresses can be worn throughout the year, even when it is chilly outside. You might want to avoid wearing your long maxi dress in the rain or deep snow because the bottom of the skirt will get wet, but in chilly weather there are many ways to wear the look and keep warm. Here are some tips for wearing your maxi dress when the temperature starts to drop:
- Put away your bright lightweight summer fabrics and choose maxi dresses in darker, deeper and more understated colours and thicker fabrics.
- Wear tights or leggings underneath the dress to keep your legs warm. Wear patterned leggings with a plain dress and plain leggings with a patterned dress.
- You could try layering a spaghetti strap maxi dress overtop of a long sleeved cotton t-shirt.
- When choosing a jacket to wear with your maxi dress, try a shorter bolero jacket which ends just above your waist which will balance out the length of the dress. Don’t wear a long cardigan, as it will look too sloppy.
- Which shoes should you wear on a cold day with a maxi dress? Why not a pair of chic suede ankle boots or calf high boots?
Enjoy wearing your beautiful maxi dress all throughout the year!
